One of Florida’s early childhood champions, Dr. Ann K. Levy, passed away on January 4, 2015. Many in the field of early childhood education knew Dr. Levy as her career included roles as teacher in elementary and early childhood settings, staff director to the Florida House of Representatives Education Committee, project director at the Florida Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy, and adjunct professor and director of the Education Research Center for Child Development at Florida State University. Dr. Levy served on many local, state and national boards and advisory groups to include the Governing Board for the National Association for the Education of Young Children, President of the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children, Chair of the State Coordinating Council for Early Childhood Services established by the Legislature, Chair of the Children’s Forum Board of Directors, President of the Leon Association for the Education of Young Children, and President of Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend and the One Goal Summer Conference Planning Committee. Dr. Levy was honored to receive the Chiles Advocacy Award, the Budd Bell Child Advocate of the Year Award, and the Nancy Thomas Collaboration Award for her exemplary service to young children and those who care for and educate them.
To honor her legacy, the Children’s Forum has established the Ann K. Levy T.E.A.C.H. Memorial Scholarship Fund. Dr. Levy was a staunch advocate for ensuring teachers had opportunities for ongoing education recognizing the important link between teacher competence and child success. “This scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute to the incredible work of a gracious and special early childhood advocate. We are humbled to honor her in this manner and look forward to awarding the scholarship to an individual who embodies the spirit and passion for young children that Ann emulated,” stated Dr. Phyllis Kalifeh, President & CEO of the Children’s Forum. Robert Buesing, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Children’s Forum and prominent Tampa attorney shared, “All of the proceeds contributed to the Ann K. Levy T.E.A.C.H. Memorial Scholarship Fund will go directly to support a deserving early childhood practitioner in the quest for higher education.” “We are saddened by her passing but pleased to be able to honor her memory in such a special way,” he added.

- Beverly Kamp – 2015-Present Beverly Kamp was awarded the Ann K. Levy Scholarship in 2015. Currently she is a teacher at Little Lambs Preschool in Lutz, FL. Beverly is in her third contract working toward her Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education.
